Abstract

Keyword: movies, speaking ability, classsroom action research. Teaching speaking by using movie as media in the classroom is a good way to facilitate the students how to speak well by imitating the character in the movie, also students can learn many things from the movie such as culture, history, etc Beside that, Asnawir (in Munadi, 2008) stated, the good movie has some characteristics they are: increase students'' proclivity, show right and authentic view, up to date in setting, clothes, and environment, appropriate with the audience understanding, show the structure of the language, regulate the essential and the sequence of the movie, and satisfy the audicncej on the technique of making movie. To solve the problem to teach speaking English, the researcher believe to apply the short movie media. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) it had stages those were planning, action, observation, and reflection. This research was conducted in about two cycles. They are first and second cycle and each cycle is a series of activities that have a close relationship. Where, the realization of the second cycle is an improvement from the first cycle if the first cycle is less successful. In this research, the researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR) method to solve speaking problem of students X SMK Wachid Hajim Maduran by using Avatar 2 movies. Suharsimi Arikunto (2010) Classroom Action Research is a research activity carried out on a number of subjects that targeted, namely students, aimed at improving the learning situation in the classroom so that there is an improvement in the quality of learning. The research finding the student''s speaking test results showed that the success criteria had been achieved. This could be seen from the students'' scores on the speaking test. All 20 students scored more than or equal to 70. The highest student score was 92. In addition, 5 students (25%) got 83. For 80, there were three students (15%). The value of 88 was obtained by two students (10%). The value of 87 was obtained by two students (10%). A score of 84was also obtained by two students (10%). A score of 85 was obtained by one student (5%). A score of 78 was also obtained by two students (10%). A score of 75 was obtained by one student (5%). And also, the value of 73 was obtained by one student (5%). Then, one student got the highest score, namely 92 (5%). Thus in total, based on student writing test data, it could be concluded that 100% of students scored more than or equal to 70.
