Abstract

Keyword: Students’ perception, Cake application, English Learning The rapid advancement of technology has transformed the landscape of language learning, and online platforms have emerged as popular alternatives to traditional classroom settings. Among these platforms, the Cake application stands out as an innovative tool that offers interactive and personalized English language learning experiences. This thesis aims to explore the perception of English language students regarding the use of online English learning through the Cake application. The study adopts qualitative method with case study approach. Participants in this study were 23 English students at the Islamic University of Darul ‘Ulum Lamongan who had used the Cake application. The instruments used were questionnaire and interview guide. A survey questionnaire is distributed to a diverse group of English language students who have utilized the Cake application in their language learning journey. Subsequently, some interview conducted to gather more in-depth insights into the students' experiences, preferences, and challenges encountered during their usage of the application. The results of this study explain several crucial aspects related to the use of the Cake application in learning English. Participants' perceptions were examined, ranging from the usability of the app to its effectiveness in improving language skills. From the results of the questionnaire and interview data, it can be concluded that students have a positive view of the cake application, so that students become motivated and enjoy learning English. Using this application also improves some of the students' English skills, with lots of material presented in the form of learning videos that allow students to practice listening and speaking more effectively. In conclusion, this thesis provides valuable insights into English students' perceptions of using the Cake application for online English learning. The results of this study are expected to provide meaning for lecturers, students, developers, and future researchers. Lecturers are expected to consider English learning media through the Cake application to motivate students. For students, the researcher suggests using the Cake application as an additional medium to improve English proficiency. And finally for future researchers, the researcher recommends using similar research and using other similar educational application objects with a larger number of participants to carry out more complex studies.
