Abstract

Keywords: Strengths, Weaknesses, TikTok application, English Learning Motivation, Adolescent This study discusses students' perceptions of the strengths and weaknesses of using one of the learning media, namely videos on the TikTok applicationin boosting the English learning motivation. The purpose of this study was to describe the strengths and weaknesses of using video on the TikTok application in boosting the English learning motivation of adolescent students. The research design of this study was descriptive qualitative method. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires with 12 statements to 20 students and interviewing 5 adolescent students in grades 10th and 11th from SMA Hasyim Asy'ari 1 Pucuk. The techniques used in the analysis of this study are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that adolescent students at SMA Hasyim Asy'ari 1 Pucuk had a positive perception of using video on the TikTok application as a media for learning English. And they also agree that learning English can boost their motivation to learn English. Learning English using videos on the TikTok application can boost their learning motivation because the strengths of the TikTok application as media for learning English help students to understand the English material. And also make it easy for them to access. The researcher suggest that English teacher be able to take the strengths of the TikTok application as a platform media learning while in class which involved students searching for information about English lesson using TikTok application.
