Abstract

This study aims to retain information about coordinate conjunctions and the compounds that labels them: a discourse study. In addition to knowing coordinate conjunctions that are often used in expository text. Tis research method is a qualitative method with technical content analysis. This research consist of the types and properties of coordinate conjunctions and compounds. The types of coordinate conjunction are additive, adversative, and temporal, and then the properties of coordinate conjunctions are, addition, contradiction, selection, and timing. As for the types of the compounds are, compound verb, compound adjective and compound noun. The object of this research is expository narrative text of SMA/MA/SMK/MAK English Handbook 2015 for XII grade, published by Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia Republic. As for the expository entitled, Zebras, Tornado, Tsunami, Teenage Bullying, Best friend forever, Persian Pottery, and Baduy People. This research is focused on coordinate conjunctions and the compound label that coordinate conjunctions. Coordinate conjunction found in this study are additive, adversative, alternative and temporal, and as for the types of compounds are, compound verb, compound adjective, and compound noun. As for the number of additive conjunctions presented as a percentage of 33,1%, alternative with is presented as a percentage 9,4% ,adversative discoveries the percentage is only 3,1% and the last temporal with the percentage 4,9%.as for the compounds; compound verb with percentage 15,7%, and for adjective with percentage 19,2%, and for compound noun with percentage 49,1%. So the most dominant of coordinate conjunctions found is type of additive, and the least is type adversative.it can be concluded that in the expository text in the handbook. As for the compound, it is the compound noun that has the most dominant. Keywords: coordinate conjunctions, cohesive, expository narrative text, handbook.
