Abstract

Speaking is a process of oral communication that includes both the productive skill of speaking and the receptive skill of understanding (listening with understanding). Some factors that contribute to difficulty speaking English include becoming bored with the media used in the teaching and learning process; students require media that can capture their attention and provide comfort while learning to speak English. During this online learning, learning to speak through YouTube could be an option. YouTube has many advantages for teaching and learning, but it also has drawbacks that will make students struggle. This study discussed the teacher’s difficulties of teaching speaking using YouTube. It was aimed to describe what are their difficultiesof teaching speaking using YouTube and their reason of use or not to use YouTube. Then, the teacher’s solution were also important to be investigated to establish a better one in the future. The research design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The data were collected by interviewing English teachers at SMAN 1 Sekaran that were recorded and then transcribed. The result of this study showed that there are six difficulties faced by teachers, such as internet network, students lack of interst, lack of time, lackof Editing skill, lack of media, and Copyright police. There are also some reasons that are caused the teachers use or not to use YouTube such as media, lackof editing skills, and lackof time. So, it can be concluded that the English teacher at SMAN 1 Sekaran Lamongan, has various difficulties. This study is expected to give motivation forthe next researchers who wants to analyze teachers difficulties this research can be used as a material reference if they will investigate the same subject.
