Abstract

Moreover, English is one of the important subjects that must be included in the curriculum of junior high schools, senior high schools and universities. Speaking skill is one of the most important skills to learn, as they allow us to communicate with others and express our thoughts and feelings. Many students still find any obstacle to speak and some student lack of confident and they are not able to speak English fluently. The first objective of the research was to describe student’s personality in the tenth grades of SMK Abudrrahman Wahid. The second objective of the research was to describe introvert student’s ability in speaking performance in the tenth grades of SMK Abudrrahman Wahid. The third objective research was to describe the influence of introvert student’s effort towards speaking performance in the tenth grades of SMK Abudrrahman Wahid. The research used quantitative method with a correlation research design. The researcher used questionnaire, speaking test and interview. The questionnaire was adapted from Self Promotion Introvert by Ancowitz (2010). The hypothesis of the research was tested by using Pearson Correlation and Linear Regression. The research was held in SMK Abdurrahman Wahid Banjarmadu. The population of the research was tenth grades of SMK Abdurrahman wahid in academic year 2021/2022 while the sample was X-Farmasi SMK Abdurrahman Wahid. The result of this study show that introvert student was dominant in the class, which is from 30 students there is 17 students who were categorized as introvert while 13 students were categorized as extrovert students. Meanwhile, the introvert student’s ability in speaking performance at the tenth grades of SMK Abdurrahman Wahid was better than extrovert students, with the average score is 76 to 73. The result show there is influence of introvert student’s effort towards speaking performance. From the hypothesis test the result shows Tcount < Ttable = 3976 < 3646, while the result from Fcount is 15.810 with the significant level is 0.001 < 0.05, while result of Rcount is 0.513. So, the influence of introvert student’s effort towards speaking performance at tenth grade of SMA students is 51.3% and show significant result.
