Abstract

This research was about writing skills through descriptive text material that used the implementation of a scientific approach. The scientific approach could be used in studying writing skills, especially on the components of the organization, vocabulary, and descriptive scores of students. This study aimed to determine the achievement of the maximum criteria scores of students in the writing test. The researcher used classroom action research, which consisted of one cycle of 4 meetings. The subject of this study were students of class X pharmacy in the academic year 2021/2022. The procedure for researchers to collect instrument data was through checklist observations, questionnaires, and student writing tests. In analyzing the data, the researcher used qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data was collected through explanations of observation checklists and questionnaires, and quantitative data were obtained through student test scores. Quantitative data was measured from three student scores: the value of the organizational component, the vocabulary component, and the descriptive value. The research finding used the implementation of a scientific approach have promise findings because, in this study, the value of all aspects was achieved to the maximum and could improved students' writing skills. The student's writing test results showed that the success criteria had been achieved. It could be seen from the students' scores on the writing test. All 20 students scored more than or equal to 70. The highest student score was 92. In addition, 5 students (25%) got 83. For 80, there were three students (15%). The value of 88 was obtained by two students (10%). The value of 87 was obtained by two students (10%). A score of 84 was also obtained by two students (10%). A score of 85 was obtained by one student (5%). A score of 78 was also obtained by two students (10%). A score of 75 was obtained by one student (5%). Furthermore, the value of 73 was obtained by one student (5%). Then, one student got the highest score, 92 (5%). Thus in total, based on student writing test data, it could be concluded that 100% of students scored more than or equal to 70 It could be concluded that the scientific approach could achieve the maximum criterion value in learning. Therefore, the scientific approach was significant when learning English, especially in writing skills.
