Abstract

This current study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using Jamboard application media to enhance students` writing skills. Furthermore, this study was focused on the writing difficulties such as the use of appropriate grammar, vocabularies and mechanics in writing personal letter that usually faced by the students. This research was classified into pre-experimental research that used one group pre-test and post-test design. The sample of this study was 11th grade of Teknik Kendaraan Ringan (TKR) of SMK Abdurrahman Wahid which consist of 28 students as the sample. The instruments of this research were writing test. Then, the result of this study was the comparison scores of pre-test and post-test before and after given treatment using Jamboard application. The result of the data indicated that the positive ranks or the difference between learning outcomes for pre-test and post-test with a mean rank or average increase 14,50. While the number of sum of ranks is 406,00. It is proven by Wilcoxon signed rank test that the researcher used to analyze the students` improvement. Based on the result, the value of significance (2-tailed) < 0,05. It means that alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted because there was significant difference between the students` writing ability in writing personal letter before and after treatment using Jamboard and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. In other words, the utilization of Jamboard is effective media to improve students` writing skills in a personal letter at the 11th grade Teknik Kendaraan Ringan (TKR) of SMK Abdurrahman Wahid. Based on the result of this study, the used of Jamboard application showed the effectiveness in teaching writing class. The researcher suggest to the teachers to used Jamboard application in writing lessons to improve students` writing skills. Moreover, the researcher also invites other researchers to conduct and update research about the effectiveness of Jamboard application on the other English skills.
