Abstract

English is an international language because almost all countries in the world use English as a tool to communicate. Listening skills are essential skills that must be mastered in language learning to achieve good target language achievement. Several things can influence students listening ability—first is the lack of listening practice spoken by native speakers. Second, student handbooks that do not facilitate audio to improve listening skills, and so on. Therefore, students often have difficulty understanding the audio spoken by the speaker. Based on the explanation, the researcher chose the Listen English Practice application as an additional medium for teaching listening. This application provides many audio records by native speakers. The researcher conducted this study to find the effectiveness of Listen English Practice as an alternative technique that can help students improve their listening skills. Here, the researcher wants to know the students’ achievement after being given treatment using the listen english practice application. This research was quasi-experimental design using a quantitative approach, the technique of data analysis was testing Hypothesis by Mann-Whitney U. The sample of this study were students of XII Tata Boga Industri as the experimental class that consisted of 30 students and XII Tata Boga Reguler as the control class consists of 34 students, The research instrument was test. The result of this study was the comparison of scores between the control class and the experimental class. Whereas the students' achievements after being given treatment using the Listen English Practice application. The researcher conducted the test twice in this study. First, pre-test "test before being given treatment" and post-test "test after being given treatment."This research was conducted at SMKN 1 Lamongan in the academic year 2021-2022. Based on the results obtained, the Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.00. It can be concluded that the significance is less than 0.05 and H0 is rejected, and Ha is accepted. The researcher found out that there was a significant difference between students' skills in listening by using Listen English Practice application and the traditional technique. The result showed the students’ achievement after getting the treatment by utilizing an English listening application as media; the total score is 2290, and the mean is 76.33. Based on the results of this study, the researcher suggests that the English teacher use Listen English Practice as the media to improve the student's listening skills. Listening practices should be given more often so that students can increase their listening skills. The researcher also invites other researchers to correct the shortcomings in this study, which still has many weaknesses.
