Abstract
Vocabulary mastery is a fundamental aspect of English language learning, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. However, many students experience difficulties in mastering English vocabulary, often caused by conventional and uninteresting teaching methods. This study aims to investigate the effectiveness of using Blooket, a game-based learning media, in improving English vocabulary acquisition among secondary school students. Blooket is expected to provide an interactive and fun learning experience to increase students' motivation and engagement in the learning process. This research uses the descriptive qualitative method of purposive sampling to select participants who could provide rich and relevant data. The research subjects were students of class X-1 SMA Negeri 1 Sekaran, totaling 38 students. The data collection techniques used were tests, observations, questionnaires, and interviews. Data were collected after the application of Blooket in the learning process to measure the development of students' vocabulary mastery from the beginning to the end of the test. In addition, students' perception of the use of Blooket was also evaluated through questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that the use of Blooket significantly improved students' English vocabulary acquisition. The students also showed a positive response to this learning method, finding it more interesting and fun. In conclusion, Blooket can be an effective alternative to teaching English vocabulary. Future research could explore the impact of Blooket on reading comprehension, listening skills, and grammar proficiency, thus providing a broader understanding of the potential of Blooket in language learning. The author's suggestions to readers are divided into theoretical, practical, and pedagogical with further research that can utilize Blooket on other skills besides vocabulary acquisition.
