Abstract

The focus of this research is to discuss the moral values contained in Elemental Movie by Peter Sohn based on Linda and Eyre’s (1993) theory and “Profil Pelajar Pancasila” in Merdeka curriculum. The objectives of this study were to describe moral values found in Elemental movie by Peter Sohn, and to explain the moral values found in Elemental movie by Peter Sohn suggested for teaching material in English Lesson. This research design of this research was descriptive qualitative. The subject of this research is the movie entitled Elemental. The data in this research were taken from the script of Elemental movie which directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream. The results showed that Elemental movie contained 11 types of moral values based on Linda and Eyre’s theory which divides into two groups consisting of value of being, and value of giving. Value of being consists of honesty, courage, peaceability, self-confidence, and discipline. Meanwhile, value of giving consists of loyalty, respect, love, unselfishness, kindness, and justice. And the most dominant moral value in the movie is the moral value of respect. Furthermore, there are 6 “Profil Pelajar Pancasila” values in the Elemental movie based Merdeka curriculum including Have Faith, devotion to God Almighty, and noble character, Critical Reasoning, Creative, mutual cooperation, Independence and Global diversity. Therefore, it can be concluded that film can be a learning resource for teachers in instilling moral values and the “Profil Pelajar Pancasila” to students aged 10-18 years old, covering grades 5 to 12. For high school students, educators can facilitate discussions to identify and analyze the moral messages conveyed in the film. The researcher suggests that this study can make a significant contribution to the world of literature and education as a complement to the study of films used as teaching materials. This research is recommended for readers to enhance their understanding of literary studies and education, especially for researchers who have an interest in literary analysis. In addition, this research can help English teachers in choosing learning media that are in line with the Merdeka curriculum. The film Elemental can serve as a valuable and interesting tool in English teaching, while emphasizing the importance of moral values in education to the wider community, especially educators.
