Abstract

The rapid advancement of technology has significantly changed language learning, with online platforms becoming popular alternatives to traditional classrooms. Among these, the Cake app's speech recognition technology is notable for providing an interactive and personalized experience for improving English speaking skills. This research investigates eleventh-grade students' perceptions the use of the Cake Application as Speech Recognition Technology in English speaking. Using a qualitative method with a survey design approach, the research involved 15 students from the banking service program at SMK NU 1 Simo Karanggeneng Lamongan. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews to understand their experiences, perceptions, and challenges with the app. The research highlights key aspects of using Cake Application as Speech Recognition Technology in speaking English. It examines students' perceptions, including the app's accuracy, usability, and challenges. The results of the questionnaire and interviews with students showed that 9 perceptions were found, namely Enjoyment, Favor, Usefulness, Helpfulness, Positiveness, Time Saving, Improvement, Feedback, Flexibility. The findings from the study reveal that students generally view the Cake Application positively, appreciating its interactive and adaptive features. However, some challenges, such as storage space issues on mobile devices and internet connection disruptions, affect the consistency of learning. Future research should involve stakeholders like parents, educational technology experts, and school counselors for a more comprehensive perspective. English teachers are encouraged to integrate the Cake app into their lesson plans to boost engagement and speaking practice, using its features to complement traditional methods. Students are advised to use the app regularly to help in learning their English speaking skills and building confidence.
