Abstract

This research examined the application of Wordwall and ZepQuiz integrated with the Think Pair Share (TPS) method to improve the English speaking skills of tenth-grade students at SMK NU 1 Karanggeneng. It identified problems of vocational high school students in speaking communication, such as low self-confidence, vocabulary shortage, and speaking anxiety. The research introduced an interactive and cooperative learning approach to address those issues. A mixed methods design was implemented with quantitative measures through pre test and post-test scores and qualitative measures through student-completed questionnaires. The TPS approach, based on constructivist learning theory, was supplemented by the inclusion of Wordwall, giving interactive vocabulary practice, and ZepQuiz, offering multimedia-based quizzes to motivate learners and elicit spontaneous speech. Participating students comprised 25 from the Visual Communication Design (DKV) course. Paired sample t test revealed a significant improvement in students' speaking scores following the intervention. In all respects of speaking fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, and content significantly increased. Qualitative findings revealed that students became more motivated, more confident, and engaged throughout the learning process. The utilization of digital tools in the TPS model facilitated engagement and fostered a more fun and conducive learning atmosphere for language. This research indicates that TPS combined with Wordwall and ZepQuiz is an effective strategy for enhancing speaking performance, particularly in vocational education. It has practical implications for teaching languages in technology-rich classrooms. Its potential application in other subjects and learning levels could be explored in future studies.
