Abstract

Tutor’s strategy in the learning process is very important to motivate students when doing learning, although motivation is one of the main factors that affect the learning process, the role of the tutor is another determining factor, because the tutor must be able to make students interested in learning English, especially reading comprehension, by provide strategies that allow students to have fun, enjoy and enhance understanding. This problem seems to have occurred in several tutoring places. Another problem that students experience while reading is the lack of vocabulary. In other words, students cannot understand the text well when it comes to foreign words. In this case, the tutor’s strategy is very important to motivate students ti be enthusiastic in learning English, especially in readig skills. The design used in this study was a descriptive qualitative. Descriptive qualitative is designed to obtain information relating to the current status of phenomenon and presented toward determining the nature of situation that happen at a time of the research activities, not giving any treatment then describing the Tutor’s Strategies in teaching reading process at International Language Foundation (ILF) . The researcher directly observed the Tutor Strategies in teaching reading. The findings introduces the research results and considerations. Learning results include analysis of tutor strategies in reading comprehension learning at the ILF (International Language Foundation) and the results of interviews at strategies in reading comprehension instructions. Results obtained from observations and interviews about strategies for teaching reading understanding. Based on the research conducted by researcher, there are three strategies used by tutors in teaching reading skills, there are: (1) Face-to-face education strategy, (2) Interactive Teaching Strategy, and (3) Experimental / Empirical education strategy. Based on the result of the research it can be concluded that the correlation between tutor strategies and students'' learning motivation on reading comprehension is very important, by using good learning strategies students will be more enthusiastic and more active in the learning process, especially with media support and good facilities. and methods students will feel happy and enthusiastic in learning reading comprehension.
