Abstract

English is an international language, and language learning requires mastery of reading comprehension skills to achieve language achievement targets. However, students often experience difficulties in understanding English texts. Based on this explanation, the researcher chose the Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) method as an adjunct in teaching reading comprehension. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of English language skills using the CSR method as a learning approach for TKJ 2 first-grade students, consisting of 28 students, from SMK NU 1 Karanggeneng. The researcher used a pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test to collect data. Data from this research instrument was in the form of multiple-choice tests (pre-test and post-test). From the data obtained, the pre-test mean score was 62.32 and the post-test mean score was 75.89. The average post-test score was 75.89 This score shows a significant difference in the post-test score, and the post-test increased after treatment. The paired sample t-test result is 0.000 < 0.05, this indicates that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. So, it can be concluded that the Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) method has a significant effect on students' English reading comprehension. Students' responses in learning support this. They can be more active and not afraid to discuss and review the material. They look enthusiastic and enjoy learning. Therefore, the researcher suggests applying the Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) method as one of the alternative models in teaching English reading comprehension.
