Abstract

Technological advancements have significantly transformed language learning methods, including English vocabulary acquisition. The Duolingo app has emerged as a popular platform for learning English due to its interactive and personalized features. This thesis aims to explore students' perceptions of using the Duolingo app as a tool for English vocabulary learning at SMA Negeri 1 Sukodadi. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews with 35 students who actively use the Duolingo app. The instruments used include a survey questionnaire distributed to 11th-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Sukodadi who have utilized the Duolingo app, followed by interviews to gather more in-depth insights into their experiences and challenges while using the Duolingo application. The result indicate that students have a positive view of the Duolingo app, considering it an effective tool for enhancing their English vocabulary. Students reported that the app's gamification features and interactive exercises made vocabulary learning more engaging and enjoyable. The study concludes that the Duolingo app is a valuable tool in the process of learning English vocabulary, and recommendations are made to enhance its use in educational settings. This research is expected to provide insights for educators, students, and app developers in efforts to improve the effectiveness of English language learning.
